5 tips for relaxing vacations // Travel

Everyone looks forward to vacation. It's a time to relax and recharge.....a time for fun and to not worry about everyday to-dos.

I'm totally the type of person who starts thinking about the next vacation before we are even back home from one.  Anyone else with me there?!

To me traveling can be so relaxing, but I know that it's harder for some people to relax and enjoy.  For some, travel brings on stresses.  The stress of planning, what to do and making sure you have everything in order.  Just like with everything....vacations aren't always going to be perfect.  There might be a few bumps in the road, but there are a few things you can do to help.

Here are my 5 tips for relaxing when going on vacation:

1)  Be a flexible planner

I like to call myself a flexible planner.  I like to have a general plan and be prepared, but I don't like every detail to be planned out.  So I do a couple of things to help make vacations easier.  First, I make a couple of lists.  I make a checklist of things that need to be done before leaving and I make a packing list.  These two things can take a ton of stress off of you because you know that everything will be in order once you leave and you will know that you packed as best as you could....reducing the chance of forgetting something. The second thing I do is I make a general plan, but have nothing set in stone.  By having a plan it takes the guess work out of things.... you have a list of things that you would like to fit in, but you don't have every moment scheduled.

2)  Go with the flow

One of the best ways to relax when traveling is to just go with the flow.  I know this can be hard for some people, but if you can learn to just breathe, and adapt to changes, it can make a huge difference.  If you can get use to going with the flow, it can be one of the most exciting things about traveling, instead of the most stressful.

3)  Don't have high expectations

I once heard someone say that if you don't have any expectations on things to see/do when traveling, you will never be disappointed because you will be thankful for what you did get to see/do.  I just LOVE this!!! It's so true!  Be thankful for everything that you get to do.

4) It’s all about the memories

One of the best things about traveling is the memories that are made.  When you choose to be present, it makes everything so much more relaxing. Soak in the little moments, the sights the sounds....these are the things that will stick with you, and these are the things that will help you to relax.

5)  Skip on the souvenirs

Skipping on souvenirs help in a couple of ways....... 1) Saving money (that you can spend of food... can I get an amen?!) and 2) less to keep up with.  Just think about it... most souvenirs end up on a shelf for a few months, maybe a year until you decid that it's just taking up space and then you store it away.  Save a little money and have less to keep up with.... invest in the important things when traveling instead of the little trinkets.

Vacation is truly a wonderful thing, and can be very relaxing, if you let it. Follow these simple tips and you will for sure be able to relax more the next time you travel.

Get out and see new things.....it's a lovely world.
