Simple, Budget Friendly Halloween Decorations
I love this time of year! I overheard one person say it best.... "I love Fall because it's the kickoff to all the Holidays." YESSS!!!!
To me, there's so much to love about this time of year and all the Holidays. Of course, there are all the activities and awesome food, but I want to talk about decorations right now.
With Halloween coming up soon, my husband and I have been slowly adding more and more to our Halloween decor both inside and outside the house. I don't like the whole "scary" decorations; we prefer simple, fun &, of course, budget-friendly (Dave Ramsey would be so proud).
I often hear people say that they would like to have more Halloween decorations, but it's too expensive. One scroll through Instagram, and it does feel very expensive to decorate sometimes. But... I believe it's possible to have simple, cute decorations that are also easy on your budget.
Here's what our decorations are looking like this year, and a little bit about how simple are budget-friendly we keep it........
The most that we spent on decorations was probably the hay bales (from a local farm store) and pumpkins (from a local farm, minus the tiny pumpkins from our little patch).
One of my favorites is the Halloween themed signed. It was a last minute idea… my husband put it together with scrap wood we had. He wrote the the places on the boards with a sharpie. I then stained and painted the wood with leftover stain and paint. Super simple and looks adorable!
The witch brooms were made out of Walmart brooms that were only a few dollars. We cut off the bristles then used some twine to tie it around the broom stick which we spray painted black.
The lantern holder is a bird feeder stand we have had for awhile. We haven’t been using it so we decided to spray paint it black and tie it to one of the hay bales….. turns out, it makes a pretty awesome lantern holder.
Most of the decorations we have out are Fall themed… we’ve just added little Halloween decorations here and there to leave out for October. Most of our Halloween decorations are things we have gotten over the years (mostly on sale) from places like At Home, Hobby Lobby, Target, Micheal’s, TJ Maxx and of course The Zon (Amazon).
The wall hanging above our couch is a fun one….. it’s actually a Christmas picture that we just never switched out. So, we decided to throw some of the tattered fabric over top it and stick some bats on (“freakin’ bats… I love Halloween”). The remote controlled candles we purchased from Amazon (great for Christmas also) and the little “boo” pumpkin came from the ever so awesome Dollar store… we got it our first Halloween we were married 13 years ago.
Simplicity + Fall = My happy place
This picture I put out every year. It’s a picture of my dad, my sister and I. My mom would always put this picture out every year, now we are carry on the tradition. I love old family photos… they always have a story behind them.
The “Hocus Pocus” sign is something I randomly threw together. I put together the design, printed it out, rubbed some coffee grounds on it (makes it looked weathered) and used an empty picture frame.
The bats came from Amazon. Throw some of the tattered fabric on top of your curtains, light a nice Fall candle…. and enjoy the fun of the Holidays!
When it comes down to it, the things that make Holidays so much fun is the experience surrounding them. Decorations can be a simple way to add to that experience a little more. Keep in mind, we reuse all of our decorations (minus the hay bales and pumpkins) and we have built up our decoration collection over time. Decorating should not be something you stressed over and certainly not something that hurts your wallet. Keep things simple and fun.
Get creative,
Use what you have,
Have fun with it,
and enjoy the fun of Halloween.
