How to strengthen your marriage // Marriage
Marriage is a beautiful, wonderful, lovely and quite honestly.... a hard thing.
Just because you marry your best friend, doesn't automatically make you have a stronger relationship. Heck, being married for years doesn't make you have a strong marriage.
The truth is that marriage is hard but it's oh so worth it! IT'S WORTH THE WORK!
I am all for building and strengthening marriages, I think it's so very important to constantly put in the work to help make your marriage as strong as possible.
Cue the 5 love languages.....
Knowing your and your spouse's love language can strengthen your marriage so much!
If you haven't heard of the love languages before, it's pretty much how you give & receive love.
The 5 love languages are:
Words of affirmation
Acts of service
Receiving gifts
Quality Time
Physical touch
It sounds so simple, but knowing how you and your spouse show & receive love can create a huge impact on your marriage.
It's funny because before children my main language (how I like to receive love) was Quality time and words of affirmation. Now, after having kids my top two love languages is Words of affirmation & Acts of service (sound about right fellow mamas?!).
The last on my list..... Physical touch.
My husband's first love language..... Physical touch.
Now, I'm sure that there are many of you reading this right now chuckling, because it's probably about the same in your home.
So how does knowing this strengthen our marriage? Well.....even though physical touch is last on my list, I know that is something that my husband needs... so I make an extra effort to show that. But on the flip side....he knows that it is not my top love language, so he keeps in mind to help me out and encourage me, so I can feel loved too.
I've said it once and I'll say it again.... It's all about putting your spouse before yourself.
It's so very important to know you and your spouses love language. If you don't know your love language, I highly encourage you to take this easy quiz to find out how you receive love the best.
Marriage isn't always easy, but it's worth the work. Put in the extra effort and put your spouse before yourself.
