How to quickly stop comparing yourself to others
You know that I'm all for celebrating who God created you to be ......
but at the same time, we are all human and falling into that comparison trap is pretty easy to do sometimes.... and that's exactly what happened to me this week.
This week has been one of those weeks where I just can't seem to get things done that I really want to work on, because well..... Life! Because of this I was left feeling a little defeated and unaccomplished. Well then..... I went to Instagram.
Ahhh, Instagram. Now, don't get me wrong I LOVE Instagram, but it is a very easy place to start comparing your every day life to someone else's highlight reel. This is exactly what happened to me.
I got onto Instagram and saw these amazing ladies that I look up to and I see them doing things that I aspire to do one day. I couldn't help but to think "These ladies are so awesome and they are already doing the thing I would love to do. They are already there and I feel like I will never get to my goal."
Thankfully I noticed what I was doing and reminded myself very quickly that all of my thoughts were unproductive & untrue.
So here's what helped me quickly get out of the comparison trap:
1) I reminded myself that my situation is not theirs
It’s always good to remember that your situation is different from others and…. you don’t know that struggles that others have gone through to get where they are now. Everyone is different, you just gotta keep going to do what works best for you.
2) I talked to a friend
I went to a friend and told her my thoughts and frustrations. More than anything it was good to just get the feelings out to someone who knew where I was coming from. Sometimes we just need a good & trusted listening ear and a little encouragement.
3) I did something that made me happy
Doing something that makes you happy is going to bring you joy and it's pretty hard to feel down on yourself if you are joyful right?!
4) I put those “blinders” up
I put the blinders up the best that I could and I got to work on some of my goals. Here's the thing about comparison....it's a waste of time! While you are busy comparing, you are losing time working toward a goal you have (even if that goal is getting your dishes done that day).
So, if you feel like you are constantly on the comparison cycle please know that it's totally normal.....
BUT.... don't stay there!!
Never compare your everyday life to someone else’s highlight reel
Talk to someone about your frustrations. I'm totally willing to be a listening ear and give you some encouragement. Feel feel to leave a comment or send me a message on Instagram.
Do something that brings you joy!
Don't waste your time looking at others and not working on yourself.
Remember..... God did create you to be unique and he gave you thoughts, strengths and talents that is like no one else. So really.....there is no comparison because you are the only you!
