Fall Decorations......

Let’s talk decorations for a bit.

I love decorating for different seasons and holidays but our family is also on a limited budget.

So when I see these videos of Fall Target & Hobby Lobby hauls, I just honestly cannot relate.

(nothing wrong with it, just not what the current situation is for me and my family)

…….. so here is what we do:

  • We keep it simple

  • We use what we have

  • We get a little crafty

  • We keep it within budget

I think it’s pretty common that when people are newlyweds or they move into their own space, they want to make their place super homey…. which is a wonderful thing, but I see a lot of people spend far too much money on decorations right away. There’s a couple of problems with that:

1) Your taste will change over time

2) Decorations are not worth going into debt for or causing you budget to be too tight.

Having an intentional Home & Fall isn’t about having the latest and most decked out house, it’s about making the most of what you have.

So if you haven’t already decorated, or if you are wanting to add to your decorations here are some things to think about…..

1) What are some of the things that you already have (passed down or collected over the years) that you can decorate with?

2) What kind of crafts/decorations could you and your family make? (these often tend to be some of the best decorations because they are more meaningful…more memories with them).

3) What kind of decorations do you have that can work for Fall, Halloween or Winter? I like to call these multi-purposeful or multi- functional decorations.

In our home, most of our Fall decorations are simple things that we have bought over the years (we would get 1-2 things each year), homemade or multi-functional (good for Fall, Christmas or year around).

This is just what works for our family not only because it is easier on the budget but also because it helps with storage. (Being a military family we need to keep things easy to store and move)

It’s easy to get caught up in the spirit of things when it comes to decorations, but just remember that it is more than possible to keep it simple and meaningful….. that is when decorations add to the season in the right way.
