Self Care for the Fall
One of the things I love most about this time of year is that nature shows us that it’s good to slow down sometimes.
In this busy world that we live in we need that more than ever.
But, slowing down doesn’t mean that we stay stagnate and don’t get anything accomplished. I think it provides us a wonderful time to do some great inner work and self care time, that we all need.
If you are feeling the need for a little self care here are some things I recommend…..
Here are some of my recommendations of simple self care for the Fall:
Movement
Did you know that emotions and trauma can get stuck in your body? (I can go into more detail with this later if you would like) One simple thing that can help you work some of those out is movement. Physically moving your body helps not only your body but your mind as well.
Go for a walk, dance around your in living room, hike, do a simple at home workout.
Journaling
This is a great way to get out all those thoughts that you keep stored in your mind. Do a good brain dump to get those thoughts, ideas and frustration out of your head and onto paper.
Eat for the season
In TCM (again something I could go into more detail later if there is interest) The Fall season is when we should be eating all the yummy Fall foods. Think Root veggies like Pumpkin, squash etc…… These types of food are great for your stomach which in TCM processes worry…. so if you are prone to worry like I have been in the past, grab all the pumpkin!
Buy yourself at least one thing
Now… you know me I am not about spending a bunch of money. I think everyone should budget and live below their means but…. I also know that mamas tend to spend hardly anything on themselves. So, give yourself permission to get something just for you. It doesn’t have to be expensive… it could be as simple as a new pair of jeans, a coffee mug, a new book or a sweater.
Give yourself wake up and wind down time
In the morning and evening give yourself some time to ease into the day and wind down from the day. For me this looks like a walk, warm beverage and devotional in the morning and snuggling up on the couch to read or enjoy a show with my family in the evening.
Stay Hydrated
As a mom it can be difficult to remember to take care of ourselves because we are doing that for everyone else. Don’t forget something as simple as staying hydrated. Get some water with lemon or a healthy pack of electrolytes (I would be happy to recommend some that doesn’t have a ton of sugar) and be sure you are getting those sips in throughout the day.
I know these all may seem super basic but taking care of yourself doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, getting back to the basics is normally some of the greatest self care that we can do.
